Buda is an enticing small city of about 5,000 residents that is less than 20 miles from downtown Austin. Budans love their community’s small-town feel and at the same time appreciate quick access to big-city amenities. More than just a bedroom community, though, Buda is proud of its increasing significance as a destination in and of itself. The town’s nationally recognized historic downtown draws residents and visitors to its intriguing architecture, as well as to the many boutiques and restaurants that line the streets. Revelers from all over Central Texas turn out for the super-fun wiener dog races that are held in April.
Outdoor activities, too, are a big draw in Buda. In fact, the Texas legislature has declared Buda the “Outdoor Capital of Texas” because of its large number of parks and greenspaces. Budans enjoy hike and bike trails, playgrounds, sports courts and fields and fishing in area waterways.
Tons of development along I-35, which bisects the area, means residents have plenty of shopping options, including Cabela’s, the huge outdoor-life retailer.
Home styles available in Buda include historic, mid-century, ranch and modern, and students attend schools in the Hays Consolidated Independent School District.
